STUDIO MELANIE RAINES is the design practice arm of the Hardholy worldview, translating its principles into built work with precision and artfulness. Guided by the Hardholy Method and an experience-first approach, the studio approaches each project as a structured, engaged practice rather than a stylistic exercise. Moving from inquiry and spatial strategy through to detailed execution, procurement, and installation, the studio offers full-service work across a range of residential and boutique commercial applications.

The studio’s process is in a category of one, for those who want an immersive, hands-on experience. Each process begins with a deep inquiry, a 2-day retreat filled with prompts and creative exercises to align you with your space. The findings are developed into material spatial development, defined by interior architecture as much as interiors themselves: proportion, material assemblies, lighting, and circulation are developed in concert to produce environments that perform as intended over time.

The studio operates as a small, senior team of architects and designers, intentionally taking on a limited number of high-end residential and boutique commercial projects. This allows for direct involvement at every stage, from early concept through construction administration and installation, ensuring continuity between what is designed and what is built.

With studios in Austin, Texas and Venice, California, the studio has completed work across Texas, California, Montana, Florida, Mexico City, New York, and the UK, collaborating closely with clients, architects, and builders to deliver highly customized, technically rigorous atmospheres.
